Changes to the National Construction Code
At Coral Homes, we’re built on trust, transparency, quality, and exceptional customer service. As we continue to uphold these values, we’re dedicated to meeting the new National Construction Code (NCC) standards, which will prioritise energy efficiency, make your home more resilient to climate change, and provide a more comfortable home to live in.
Our focus on building sustainable homes aligns with Australia’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, resulting in homes that are both environmentally friendly and cost-effective to run.
7-Star Home Energy Rating
At Coral Homes, we’re committed to prioritising climate-sensitive designs to ensure that we deliver the most efficient and comfortable home for your lifestyle. Our goal is to build homes which naturally maintain cooler temperatures in summer and warmer ones in winter, all while reducing overall energy consumption.
Building for 7-stars doesn’t have to be costly, implementing simple design and material choices make a significant difference to energy efficiency and the rating outcome.
This can be achieved by improving insulation, implementing strategic ventilation to promote airflow, creating carefully designed breeze paths, utilisation of ceiling fans, thoughtfully considered shading solutions, and the use of lighter colours for roofs and window frames.
By integrating these features into our designs, we aim to provide homeowners with sustainable, comfortable, and energy-efficient living spaces that align with both regulatory standards and environmental responsibility.
Whole of Home Performance
The objective of this new requirement is to guarantee that your new home is not only highly energy-efficient but also economically viable to run by considering essential factors like heating, cooling, and major appliance energy consumption. It evaluates the equilibrium between your home’s energy consumption and generation, aiming for optimal efficiency and sustainability.
Livability Standards
The updated National Construction Code guarantees that new homes abide by standards that are not only safer but also more comfortable and accessible. These improvements encompass features such as barrier-free access to dwellings, wider internal passages and doors, ground-level toilets with ample manoeuvring space, step-free showers for enhanced mobility, and reinforced walls in key areas to facilitate the easy installation of grab rails if needed in the future.
How will these changes affect my build?
Coral Homes is committed to working closely with you to build a home that not only meets the NCC standards but also minimises ongoing living costs, fits within your budget and preferences, and ensures a healthier and more thermally comfortable living environment for your family.
Customers are now asked to choose an external colour tone at the earliest stage possible to assist in planning their home’s efficiency compliance. Considerations like opting for lighter external colours, strategic orientation of the home design on the block, incorporating ceiling fans, and investing in higher insulation values will not only boost the comfort of the new home but also lower energy expenses.
Please consider that there may be additional charges for ensuring Energy Efficiency compliance, particularly for upgrades such as window and door glazing. Our standard prices cover single glazed clear glass for habitable rooms and obscure glass for wet areas. Coral Homes suggests opting for light-coloured materials for roofs, walls, windows, and doors, with solar absorptance ratings of 0.40 or lower, as well as light-coloured bricks.
